宜しくお願いします

「宜しくお願いします」 is a very common expression in Japan. Most emails I receive end with that expression. How can we translate it to English?

If your email contains a request:
  • Thanks in advance.
If you want a reply to your email:
  • I look forward to your reply.

素晴らしい

When we are impressed by an item and we think it's really great, we can say:
  • It's the greatest thing since sliced bread!
We especially use this expression for new products or new inventions that we admire.

We don't use this expression for living things (people, animals, plants, etc.) or food.

因みに

Interjection:
  • Speaking of...
We use the phrase "Speaking of" to connect the previous conversation topic with a new conversation topic.

Example 1:
Emi: "We went to the cinema in Yokohama last Sunday then we had dinner in Tokyo.
Kou: "Was it nice?"
Emi: "The film was good but the dinner wasn't."
Kou: "Oh, that's a pity. Speaking of dinner, shall we go out for dinner on Saturday?"

Example 2:
Ana: "We went to the cinema in Osaka last Sunday then we had dinner in Kyoto."
Jun: "How was it?"
Ana: "The film was good but the dinner wasn't."
Jun: "Oh, that's a pity. Speaking of the cinema, shall we go and see the new 007 film on Saturday?"
