Christmas party

We had three Christmas parties last weekend. On Saturday night, we ordered pizza delivery. On Sunday night, we ordered pizza again but new member Hiromi and her husband very kindly collected the pizzas for us, so we enjoyed a better deal. There was a quiz and a party game. I think everyone enjoyed themselves.

On Monday afternoon, we held a Christmas party especially for the younger members. We played some games and watched a traditional British Christmas animation called The Snowman. We enjoyed three cakes.

パン

Bread is very popular in Britain; it is a staple food. Most people eat bread every morning and many eat bread at lunchtime too, such as sandwiches. Some people eat bread at dinner time. Bread also makes a good snack at any time of the day or night.

Most people buy bread from a bakery, supermarket or other shops. Some supermarkets have an in-store bakery and bakery counter.

I usually eat bread at breakfast time. I make my own bread in a bread maker (machine). Making bread in a machine is simple. I often experiment with different recipes. I love the smell of freshly-baked bread; it is one of the most popular smells in Britain.

Here are some loaves I've made recently.

maccha, choco chip & Okinawan brown sugar

cranberry & oatmeal

tomato, olive, garlic & herbs

Please ask me if you would like the recipes.

目覚まし時計

I recently bought a retro-style alarm clock for London Bridge English. It is a very classic design and the alarm bell is very loud, though we don't need the alarm function.

マグカップ

British people drink a lot of tea, both at home and at work. We usually drink tea from a mug. British people have lots of mugs and many people have a favourite mug in their collection. Their favourite mug might be old and in bad condition, but it's their favourite and they always want to use it, and nobody else can use it.

I always serve tea to guests in my office. If you drink hot tea in my office, you may get a mug or a cup; it varies. However, I always use the same mug because it's my favourite.

紅葉

In Japan, viewing autumn leaves is a major event, especially for city folk. One reason is because Japanese cities lack green spaces so people are keen to go on trips to the countryside and enjoy nature.

Autumn leaf watching is not a special event in Britain. We can see beautiful trees all over Britain, including the cities so we can enjoy autumn leaves while going about our daily business.

Last week, I drove to a park a few kilometres from my home to enjoy some autumn scenery. Here are some of my photos.

iPhone 5s

iPhone is very popular. This autumn, Apple launched its latest generation iPhone, the 5s. London Bridge member Jun went early in the morning of the launch weekend to the Apple store in Shibuya and got an iPhone 5s. This month, another London Bridge member, Kanako, also got an iPhone 5s.

And last week, I got one too! Jun, Kanako and I all use Docomo. Jun and I previously used Sony Ericsson Xperia on Docomo, which we both bought about three years ago; they were our first smart phones. The iPhone 5s is Kanako's first smart phone.

Jun's iPhone 5s is the 64Gb model in silver. Kanako's iPhone 5s is the 32Gb model in gold. Mine is the 64Gb model in gold.

Today, Jun showed me his new iPhone cover.

28 grams of stainless steel at ¥20,000!

昆布茶

I always serve tea at London Bridge English; it's traditional British hospitality. Sometimes I serve a small snack such as a biscuit or cake.

Yesterday, one member brought kelp tea for us to try. We decided to eat rice crackers with the kelp tea. I thought the kelp tea was similar to soup.

Anyway, it was interesting elevenses and very different to British style.

レシピ 3

Here is another quick and easy recipe. I made kimchi pancake. It is a delicious and filling dish.

Ingredients: kimchi, egg, flour, water

I like kimchi; it's a versatile cooking ingredient.

Put some kimchi in a frying pan.

Beat an egg in a bowl.

Add flour and water, and mix together.

Pour the mixture into a hot frying pan and fry.

Serve! I added some brown sauce.

Delicious!

レシピ 2

This is a very simple dish to make. It takes me about 15 minutes to make. It's my original recipe. This dish goes well with a glass of white wine and some salad.

Boil some gnocchi in water for 2 minutes then drain.

Slice some courgette and ham; grate some cheese.

Put some olive oil, garlic and parmesan cheese in the pan.

Add some herbs such as basil, thyme or oregano.

Fry everything together for a few minutes.

Delicious!

レシピ 1

Do you like cooking? Are you too tired and busy to cook nice food? Don't eat junk food! Don't eat convenience food! You can cook delicious healthy food easily.

Here is a dish that I often cook. It's my original recipe. It's simple, quick, easy, and delicious!

Put some minced pork into a saucepan.

Dice some carrot.

Peel and cut some potato into bite-sized pieces.

Add a teaspoon of garlic paste and a teaspoon of ginger paste.

Add one piece of star anise.

Add some soy sauce and Thai fish sauce

Put all the ingredients into the saucepan with the minced pork.

Add some (filtered) water.

Preparation complete. Ready to start cooking.

Simmer for 30 minutes.

Ready to serve.

Serve with rice. I like brown rice.

Delicious and nutritious!

My guest said it was delicious and ate a healthy portion. She said it was similar to nikujaga. Sometimes I add onion and sometimes I add sake(日本酒)。The preparation time was about 15 minutes and the cooking time was about 30 minutes so total about 45 minutes. While the dish is cooking, you can talk to your guest or do something else. For example, we watched one episode of Mr Bean.

The washing-up is quite minimal so cleaning up afterwards is easy. There is only one saucepan, one teaspoon, a chopping board, a kitchen knife, two plates or bowls, two spoons, a ladle, and a rice-serving spoon.

If you cook a big portion, you can eat it again another day, for example, if you come home late from work and feel tired, simply re-heat. So easy!
